A
| DMX Addressing | Assigning each lighting fixture to a DMX channel range out of the 512 available. |
| Art-Net | UDP/IP protocol that simplifies DMX frame transfers. It allows managing multiple DMX universes at increased speed over a single network. This system requires RJ45 network cabling. |

| Barndoor | Accessory used to cut off the light beam. |
C
| Candela | Unit of measurement for luminous intensity perceived by the human eye in a given direction, denoted (cd). A candle has a brightness of approximately 1 cd in the horizontal plane. |
| CT/TC | Color Temperature expressed in Kelvin (K). Variable between 1800K (candle orange) to 10,000K (bluish electric arc). The light of a sunny day is between 5600K-6500K. |
| Coupler | Accessory used to connect multiple batteries to increase power and/or autonomy. |
| CRMX | Cognitive Radio MultipleXer. This system developed by Lumen Radio automatically scans the 2.4 GHz network and uses the least saturated frequencies in the band, thus limiting interference and latency. It allows wireless DMX frame transfer using a transmitter (TX) and one or more receivers (RX) connected to the lighting sources. See the CRMX section. |
| CTO/CTB | Correct to Orange / Blue. Filters used to "warm up" or "cool down" an existing light source. |

| Dimmer | Intensity control box / knob. Graduated from 0 to 100%. |
| DMX | Digital MultipleXing. Data transmission standard used for lighting and stage effects control. This protocol allows controlling 512 channels (9-bit addressing) by assigning each channel a value between 0 and 255 (8 bits per channel). |
| D-TAP | Battery connection port used in the film industry. |
| Driver | Power supply box that often serves as control/dimmer. |

| Eggcrate | Gridded accessory that allows narrowing the light beam of a projector. |
F
| Fresnel | Focusing lens, generally mobile, or mobile reflector that allows narrowing the beam (spot) or widening it (flood). The closer the lamp and its reflector are to the lens, the wider the beam. |

| Gaffer | English term for a chief lighting electrician / Adhesive tape used in cinema. |
| Gels | Colored film used to correct or modify the color of light. |
| Gobo | GOes Before Optics - Metal plate accessory with pre-cut patterns that allows controlling the shape of the shadow. |

| HSI | Hue Saturation Intensity. Hue control (0-360°), saturation (0-100%) and intensity (0-100%). |
| Hue | Tint expressed from 0 to 360° on a color wheel. |
I
| Incandescent | Light source that illuminates by incandescence of a tungsten filament. |
| CRI | Color Rendering Index. Measures the ability of a light source to reproduce the hues/shades of color of a surface/object. Ranging from 0 to 100, the CRI establishes renderings compared to a reference source (e.g., the sun). |

| Daylight | Color temperature between 5600 and 6500 Kelvin. |
